I say they did the right thing, 10 years in the top job in a good long run for any leader, there is no way she will want to run again, best get out of the way early and let the new learders get as much experance as they can in the next three years. |

| 719170 | 2008-11-11 04:22:00 | So now John Key is trying to get a government sworn in this week based on a simple confidence and supply agreement with two smaller parties just so that... he can bugger off to Peru next week with two MPs in tow and attend the APEC meeting. I can imagine the kind of reaction from some on this 'ere forum if Labour was trying this on... |

Am I to assume then that you dont think we should be represented at the APEC meeting, given the state of the world economy? I would have thought it imperative we know what others are up to be able to protect our own backsides. ;) |

Too right there would be a reaction if labour went because they lost the manadate to govern. |

| 719174 | 2008-11-11 05:28:00 | To swear in a government to the Governor General on the basis of a simple confidence and supply agreement is premature. To govern through a coalition the parties need to reach agreement on policy - and to attend an APEC summit without such an agreement is, in effect, attending it without a clear mandate. | Deane F (8204) | ||

It's not a very good reason to speed up these sorts of talks, given that we'll have to live with the consequences for the next three years. |
