719158 2008-11-11 00:06:00 Helen had apparently been thinking about leaving for quite a long time, with this end in mind if she wasn't re-elected.

If I were in her place I'd feel exactly the same way. She's had a good run, and it's probably time for her to be finding bigger and better things to do.

I doubt she would have been toppled had she stayed, she's far too dominant (not to mention capable and experienced) for anyone to really stand a chance against her.

719161 2008-11-11 02:06:00 Goff aint the right person for leader, he is as dry as the Gobi desert and was a stink defence minister.
Hes got zero charisma and totaly unsuited for leadership.

I am wrapped they chose him means the buggers wont get back in 3 years time.

As opposed to JK, who's never proven himself in any capacity, and has all the charisma of a dead fish.

Now he's the sort of guy we need as PM. Am I right?

Maybe it was just cunning strategy, looking to replicate the Nats recent success.

Helen Clark was flying a hot air balloon, and realised she was lost . She reduced altitude and spotted a man below .

She descended a bit more and shouted, ‘Excuse me, can you help me?'

'I promised a friend I would meet her an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am .

The man below replied, ‘You’re in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground . You’re between 40-41º North latitude and between 59-60º West longitude .

‘You must be an engineer,’ said Helen .

‘I am,’ said the man, ‘how did you know?’

‘Well’ answered Helen, ‘everything you told me is technicaly correct, but I’ve no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I’m still lost .

Frankly, you’ve not been much help at all . If anything, you’ve delayed my trip .

The man below responded, ‘You must be the leader of the labour party .

‘I am,’ replied Helen, ‘how did you know?’

‘Well,’ said the man, ‘you don’t know where you are or where you’re going . You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air . You made a promise, which you’ve no idea how to keep and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems .

The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow it’s my fault .

I thought having the charisma of a dead fish was his ploy, no BS and crap advertising.

Looks like it worked.

......BTW, we aren't in the US.......

*** I know we aren't in the US.

What was the point of your comments on Cullen not staying on as deputy leader once Clark resigned as leader? I was making the point that unlike the US for example there is no succession, if the leader here steps down it would be the norm that both positions would be subject to a Caucus vote. Cullen would have looked a dick if he hadn't stepped down especially as a new government is about to be sworn in
