Guns are inherently non-evil, and I enjoy the very mechanism of them and the feel and all, yet I don't own any. It MIGHT be property-rights issues or domain and such, but it isn't easy to shoebox the whole country and try to get a feel of the motivations and reasons for anything that goes on here. Splinter groups (I call them 2%-ers) are all around, mostly so in very isolated areas and yes — there are still many uninhabited areas in the US. Many so-called "redneck" persons of questionable DNA pools do indeed live in places like Mayberry and Hooterville yet. Many militant grenade tossers live in amongst the decent "nice" people who turn out every once in a while to be a defrocked catholic priest who was guilty of child abuse or sodomy, or harboring a fugitive from federal justice. Some are average blue collar worker bees who just go nuts on a hot Friday night when the temperature is hot, the humidity is odious and the air conditioner's on the fritz and they go "boing" and grab a rifle with a scope and climb a tower and start picking off one-legged Oriental women in red dresses because it reminds him of what his mother did for some extra money after the sperm donor-missing male took off for a sixpack of beer and hasn't been seen since. The second-striker who has been in prison twice for drugs and cannot afford a parking ticket or he'll go back to the slammer for life, steals a car to pay off his current drug dues and goes for it all the way in a thirty police car high-speed pursuit and runs a bus load of kindergarteners off the freeway overpass in an attempt to avoid capture and re-re-re-arrest. I don't see a pattern here. What I DO see is people are in SURVIVAL MODE here now and can't be bothered to assist, help or commiserate to the tragedies that are going on around them. They hustle, working to feed hungry kids and spouses and make the car payments and the house payments and the insurance payments and the food purchases and the credit card payments and...and...and.... |
