Maybe that says something about Germans though.

At the risk of hijacking this thread further - yes, I agree that the expectation that any particular word be a specific gender is optimistic, to say the least, however most Romance languages are pretty consistent (within themselves anyway) and so similar words (like "life" and "death") can reasonably be expected to be the same gender...

If you were a doctor, your patients should take extra care interpreting your diagnosis.
