719572 2008-11-11 22:04:00 You might find this (www.powerlabs.org) interesting. It's for an impreza, but it has quite a lot of general info. ubergeek85 (131)
719573 2008-11-12 16:14:00 Cheers Everyone,
I know i'm not really on the right site but i saw allot of people talking about the turbo timers before. As for the engine its standard with the top mounted intercooler.Lag kicks in between 3 and 4000Revs.
Once again thanks everyone.

719574 2008-11-12 19:32:00 hmm that does seem rather high fro boost to kick in for a 2L turbo - i have a mate with a Twinturbo B4 (non RSK) and ill ask him some Q's about his car

ill get back to ya

719575 2008-11-12 19:34:00 I'd say thats about right, I've got a mate rith a '97 twin turbo RSB and the boost seems to kick in about then. Do remember that they rev out quite high, and you'd cruise at about 3000rpm, IMO 4000 would be about right. wratterus (105)
719576 2008-11-12 20:07:00 your car is fine - my mates B4 does exactly the same as yours

since it has 2 turbos they are different - one tiny turbo and one larger turbo

the tiny turbo provides almost unoticable boost but is there and working (in the 2-4000RPM range)

then the larger turbo decides to wake up and wont gain full boost till roughly 4500-5000RPM and then its full on to the redline

your description perfectly matches the description my friend just gave me so i dont think there this anything you can do about it bar replacing the turbochargers for something different

if you are really panicked about the lag and have some spare cash - ive never heard of a Supercharged Boxer4 so you could possibly do that and be one of a kind

wether its possible or not i wouldnt know :o

719577 2008-11-12 20:16:00 I have a Legacy GTB twin turbo and it is the same too.
First turbo boosts around 2-4000rpm then there is a bit of lag as the second turbo kicks in around 4.5-5000rpm.
Just avoid that rpm range while driving

719578 2008-11-12 20:20:00 I don't know why more manufacturers don't use superchargers instead of the low rev turbos... The extra oomph and no lag would push you straight into the turbo.

Unless I'm just wrong. Which is probably the case.

719579 2008-11-12 20:32:00 toyota did a heap of supercharged cars in the 90's and still do now

back in the 90's the supra had a 1G-GZE - 2L Supercharged Straight 6

and the Levin\Trueno had a GT-Z version - 4A-GZE 1600cc Supercharged 4 Banger - ive driven one of these and they are brilliant - they make the 1600 feel like a 3L beast with the low end power

toyota still make a 2ZZ-GE 1800cc Supercharged box for the lotus Exige and some of their "GT" cars today

i think its cheaper to turbocharge cars hence its far more common to do so - a few manufactuers have experimented with Twincharging with both a turbocharger and supercharger but its both expensive and tricky to install and setup :waughh:

I've heard that the benefits are huge though, that the turbo kicks in right where the BHP vampire-ness of superchargers becomes most noticeable.

Does seem unnecessarily complicated though.

719581 2008-11-12 20:58:00 yeah when done right they are apparently so brilliant its painfull :wub

its the perfect theory - supercharger for low RPM boost - then cutting to the large turbocharger at high rpm for when the supercharger loses effectivness

just needs to be done properly
