If the employer has to pay more for its employees, they will get rid of some employees and raise their prices to match the increased labour cost. These increased costs get passed onto the consumer so negate any wage increase, so everyone is back to where they were before. If people want higher pay, they should upskill or get a better job. |

I hear the foremen are extremely talented and highly skilled super humans. Well, at least one of them is. Plenty of moronic fools in the industry not worth minimum wage though. Thats what happens when the government drives all the worthy people over seas, and then pays the rest to stay at home. Although I'm sure even the biggest idiots in NZ are capable of putting the correct amount of chicken pieces in a box if their managers weren't complete and utter tools. |

Please note that I have deliberately refrained from qualifying or quantifying the necessities of life, suffice to say bare subsistence is not a life, it is merely existence. Excluded from they who merely exist are those "members" of society whose circumstances are the outcome of conscious choice(s). In a free society they are also free to choose that existence, and we are equally free to let them live and die in whatever misery and squalor they prefer. That said, the incoming government's basic manifesto is to ensure that those who must graft for a living graft harder and for less, while those who count grafters and view them as individual profit centres will ride the crest of the wave and wonder what everybody is complaining about. No one where I work will be made to work harder for less money. Pretty much at both ends of the scale already. Still, They could always up skill, the opportunities are always there. Easier to just booze it. (though we did just lay off 7 people) |
