Metla's honest (mostly). You've got to give him that.

That's true enough :)

Let's get some perspective, Solmiester "ranted" on about a "farm".......some farm at over 78,000 hectares.

St James Station now part of the Conservation Estate, over twice the area of Egmont National Park (33,000 hectares).

Tararua Forest park is around 116,500 hectares.

It is not a trivial bit of land.

Sale price per hectare $500.

Sale price of arable and dairy farm land per hectare this year $20,000 to $50,000.

Small farms from less than 100 hectares up to a few hundred hectares selling for several million, $14,000,000, even up to $32,000,000 in the King Country.

719377 2008-11-11 19:56:00 And how many silly cows to the acre does this new bit of old dirt support? R2x1 (4628)
719378 2008-11-11 20:01:00 Whats your point Terry...?

For me IMHO, $40mill spending of tax payer money is wasted....I couldn't give a toss how many trampers want to go there and get loss so we can pay more money to rescue services.....that's $40mill which could of had a bigger impact on more NZers than just tourist over here for a stroll...

719379 2008-11-11 20:04:00 Great! We get to use it. Some overseas buyer doesn't get to park a private house on it and keep it to themselves. pctek (84)

719381 2008-11-11 20:23:00 Right,Now that i am better informed, I have more questions.

How long till this desolate and remote piece of rock and dirt starts making a profit? (don't go telling me it will never make a cent and instead cost us many thousands a year...god no), and do we get paid back a percentage of that profit?, after all, its our ****ing money.
