719420 2008-11-18 07:28:00 Did you guys get a faster startup?
I'm using the PDC version and I feel like its snappier than vista and quicker to boot too

Anyone else noticed this?

719421 2008-11-18 08:24:00 When did MS release a system that WASN'T in Beta?

I don't recall any that worked at all well until they had been on sale for some considerable time - some will not work properly years after release.

(The marketing works brilliantly though ;) )

719422 2008-11-18 08:37:00 Wonderful. So how do you fix that?

I can't see a lot of difference going by whats been said/shown.

Vlite for W7 will obviously be the way to go.

Pity after all the feedback they asked for. Unsurprising that they ignored most of it.

PCTek...after you afraid of change?, have to say I am sometimes.....you know what, I sometimes think that for all the money MS have made, Bill Gates and all, they have delivered to the world consumer 'en masse' a standardised platform on which the business world, home user and gamer can inter-act. I'm not a share holder, but you really do come across negative.

I've heard that a lot of what this OS is about is front end snappiness.

Although things may not be happening any quicker, it gives the illusion that it is. And for most users, this is what makes a faster/more betterer OS.

Still, doesn't really bear trashing it at this point. Just wait until it comes out, or at least until it gets to a more complete beta stage.
Cool calculator though.z

719424 2008-11-18 09:15:00 IMO, with multi core here, we should be able to code an O/S which will have a core for.....O/S, core for UI with overlap to active application....we have that much RAM and processing power these days.......there is no reason for write delays, app loading\switching.....I think disk access in a current bottleneck, however, how cheap in storage nowadays.... 719425 2008-11-19 07:19:00 I use XP still on my laptop which I am quite happy with, but am not in the least bit impressed with Vista basic which my mothers new (though not hi spec desktop) uses. XP just does the job, but Vista seems so slow and clunky, (not to mention irritating confirmation requests) for a similary spec'd computer. When I eventually replace my laptop,I will seriously consider a Mac Airbook or similar. Johnnz (7246)
719426 2008-11-19 09:06:00 Yes Windows certainly does do a lot and is used by 90 percent of the market, even when its opposition is free !
They just need to make it smaller and faster and more reliable.

lolololol.

Have you seen the specs on those things?

If you can afford an Air, get a Pro. If you really want an Air, get a Pro. If you want an overheating, overhyped, underperforming, wallet eating cluster**** of a laptop, go for an Air.
