| 719460 | 2008-11-11 05:58:00 | Halfway through my trip and am enjoying it. Suprisingly it's not cold and it's warm and humid. Lots of pine plantations versus dairy in the North Island. Just don't get enough time to go shopping. Ahh well. Fox Glacier Tomorrow!!!!!!! |

Go early in the morning before the breeze starts and you will get some amazing reflections in the water. The track is easy - you could just about do it in a wheelchair, but the views are superb. Worth going to Gillespies Beach as well - nice drive, nice walks, and the sunsets from the beach are great. You can look at the sunset, then turn around and look at Aoraki Mt Cook and Mt Tasman bathed in the sunset glow. All depending upon weather of course, and sadly this ain't the best time of year to be down there. If you are going south after Fox, I recommend that you do the two short walks at Ship Creek, especially the one that goes inland. Enjoy (you will, provided you take some insect repellent!). |

Good to hear your having a great time. What happened to your old account? I'm using this while on holiday, so that if it does get hijacked it's easy enough to ban. I'm with a package tour group, so I don't have the time to do all I want. However I will be taking a heli tour over the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers tomorrow. Then we move on to the next location. Wanaka I think. We did get to see the Seals out of Westport, and go see Pancake Rock(s) today. |

My son has been involved in project managing the building or replacement of a lot of the DoC facilities between Haast and Punakaiki (the pancake rocks). If you pee in one of the DoC dunnies, my son probably had a hand in organising that for your prostatic pleasure! Enjoy! |
