833073 2009-11-24 04:00:00 Just got an iPod touch and would like to connect it to the laptop (which has wifi) to connect it to the internet.

So far I've been able to connect it to the laptop (by setting up a ad-hoc connection) but have been unable to connect the iPod to the internet .

The laptop can browse the internet whilst the iPod is connected but the iPod just sits there saying "connecting" :annoyed:.

Any help is greatly appreciated :thanks.

Edit: Laptop connects to the internet through a switch (don't have a wireless router and don't want to buy one yet, but will do so in the near future).

833074 2009-11-24 04:21:00 You need to set the laptop to 'share' the wired connection with the wireless network.
What OS is on the laptop?

Laptops OS is XP.

833078 2009-12-23 08:23:00 Ok, I've noticed that my iPod is browsing the net really slowly, so I downloaded the speedtest.net app and I discovered that it was basically going at dial up speed. The reception is also always 1 bar out of 3 :(.

Is this to be expected or is there a setting or something that I have to change?

Edit: Just discovered this (www.imagef1.net.nz)as well, shouldn't it be connected faster than that?

833079 2009-12-23 19:01:00 1mbps would still be great. It's the Vodafone 3G network. Try an XT SIM, I noticed a HUGE difference immediately. In fact, I use marginally more data per-month since switching, as things such as timed email checks don't fail 50% of the time now due to crappy 3G 'net speeds.. Chilling_Silence (9)

Thanks for the reply chill but being a iPod Touch it lacks the ability to connect to a 3G network - Wifi is the only option.

833081 2009-12-23 19:26:00 How old is the laptop? If it is old enough it might be running at 802.11 B instead of G which would slow down your wireless connection between the two and thus slowing the internet speed for the touch down. nedkelly (9059)

Laptop is about 4 years old - HP nx6120 and in device manager the adapter is listed as a "Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN".
