833025 2009-11-24 02:14:00 had my pc that is built for a few years, and ive only just started to gt back into pc gaming. Being the person that i am, i slapped Smartfan on here to check my temps, and i was shocked. I chucked a screenshot of what it said on here. As you will see they are bloody high just for idle use, and then there is the one of when im gaming, they are usually just over 80 degrees though cause i OC the cpu to 2.5ghz.

heres my specs, they aint great, and arent meant for gaming, so please no comments on that please :)

CPU: Intel Pentium E2180 Conroe
GPU: Asus EN8600gt (not the passively cooled model)
Ram: 2GB G-SKILL DDR2-800
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP35 DS3L
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

833027 2009-11-24 02:23:00 the minimum spec intel cpu required is a 2.4GHz dual core so maybe bottlenecking there? GameJunkie (72)

When was the last time you slapped your eyes on the levels of dust and fluff inside your case? After a few years you could have the heat sinks completely blocked up.

833032 2009-11-24 04:00:00 Yea those Temps are high for what is effectively a slightly cut down Core 2 Duo at 2.5Ghz.

The Intel Stock fan is not great, but not that bad.

Two things, turn off "Smart fan control" in the Bios, this mean the CPU fan runs at full, as the Intel stock fans only run at about 2000RPM the noise is very small.

If no major improvement, I would seriously look at getting the Processor fan remounted or do it yourself if your able.

"Core" temps in the early 70's are fine, not to be mistaken for external censor motherboard temps.

you may also have a case airflow issue.

833033 2009-11-24 07:39:00 I had a overheating problem the other day and cleaned up the old thermal paste off the CPU and applied some new better quality paste and results were immediate. It might be obvious, but I didn't think it would make such a difference. Twelvevolts (5457)
