| 834323 | 2009-11-28 04:52:00 | Hi. Need Help. After I reinstalled XP Pro SP2 and updated to SP3. There is no System Restore tab on the System Tools and I can't find System restore on the Control Panel either. How can I get the System Restore back? Thanks. |

| 834326 | 2009-11-28 04:57:00 | if its not where Speedy pointed out, then click start/run type in sfc /scannow - see if that asks for the CD, as it checks for windows system files damaged or missing. | wainuitech (129) | ||

| 834328 | 2009-11-28 05:56:00 | Method 1: Make sure that the System Restore service is running To do this, use one of the following methods: * Look in Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, and then type compmgmt.msc in the Open box, and then press Enter. 2. Expand Services, and then click System Restore Services.. If the Status of System Restore Service is not Started, click Start on the toolbar to start it. * Open a Command Prompt window. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type CMD in the Open box, and then press Enter. 2. Type Net Start at the command prompt to make sure that the System Restore Service is up and is running. If the System Restore Service is not listed, type net start "System Restore Service", and then press Enter. Which is from this page support.microsoft.com |

Thanks. It does ask for the disk. "Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache." "Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD now" But after I put the xp pro sp2 cd in. It doesn't not work. More information " You have inserted the wrong CD. ie. a different Windows product CD than the version installed." It is because of the update to sp 3? |

| 834331 | 2009-11-28 06:42:00 | Try this (windowsxp.mvps.org) Reinstalling System Restore 1. Click Start, Run and type %Windir%\INF 2. Locate the SR.INF file. If you have configured Windows Explorer to hide known file extensions, the file may show up as SR. To see the file extensions for all file types, then try this: * On the Tools menu in My Computer, click Folder Options. * Click the View tab. * Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box. 3. Right-click the SR.INF file, and then click Install 4. Windows will now attempt to reinstall System Restore, and may prompt you for the Windows installation source path. Point to %Windir%\ServicePackFiles folder, or insert your slipstreamed Windows XP (matching the Service Pack level of your system.) 5. System Restore core files will be reinstalled. Restart Windows when prompted. Or this: * Alternately, you can reinstall System Restore using the following command line: rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %Windir%\Inf\sr.inf |

What you can try is a repair install from that CD, make sure you have the correct product key - then Follow these instructions (pcsupport.about.com) < that has pictures or These here (michaelstevenstech.com) - Scroll down till you get to XP Repair install, 1-6. Sounds a little like the install didn't go to good - if theres no data on the PC I'd suggest wipe the drive and start again. |
