834233 2009-11-28 02:47:00 Looking at changing my Telecom supplied Thomson ST536 modem to one with four ports.
What are good, reasonably priced brands to look at?
Don't need wireless.

Thanks.

834234 2009-11-28 03:06:00 Most that are 4-ports that are reliable come with Wireless anyways. You could always just go with a Linksys AM300 and then hook it up to a switch? Chilling_Silence (9)
834235 2009-11-28 23:51:00 Thanks.

I have enough stuff behind the computer now and was hoping to use one box instead of adding another one.
What advantage would adding a switch after the Linksys AM300 have over doing the same to the Thomson that I already have?

I suppose wireless would be future proofing, especially if we decide to get a Tivo, or update the daughter's laptop.

Thanks again,
b

834236 2009-11-29 04:20:00 I am a fan of the Netgear equipment - has never let me down so far.

834237 2009-11-29 09:29:00 Yeah TiVo is freaking awesome .. in that case grab yourself the NetComm NB6Plus4Wn.

The AM300 is a single-port router, but it's rock-solid like you wouldn't believe!

If you can afford the little extra, then future-proof yourself with WiFi ... and definitely investigate TiVo :D
