834125 2009-11-27 18:56:00 Hi there.
my computer had lost the explorer.exe file, and so I took it into the tech guy at work.
He said that the hard drive died, and then he managed to 'save' it.
Now all our data is gone(yay!), and this means there is no java or flash player installed. BUT, the tech guy said we can't install anything or the hard drive will die. Forever.
Any ideas whether I can get him to replace the actual hard drive, or does the entire unit have to be replaced?

834126 2009-11-27 19:24:00 Sounds like you should replace the hard drive, it's no use to you the way it is! KarameaDave (15222)
834127 2009-11-27 19:53:00 So what exactly did he save then if all your data is gone? If he magically saved the HDD then all the data should be there still. It sounds like he accidentally just replaced what was on there gary67 (56)
834128 2009-11-27 20:36:00 well, by 'save' I meant 'brought back to life', in the sense that the hard drive died, then he somehow got it up and running again.
Sorry for any confusion

834129 2009-11-27 20:39:00 And in so doing wiped all your data? I would replace it now because if it had died it would not be reusable. I'm guessing it maybe had a file error of some kind and hadn't actually died but was unbootable gary67 (56)
834130 2009-11-27 20:40:00 Well if its going to die, you'll have to buy another hdd, and reinstall windows. Or just reinstall windows Speedy Gonzales (78)
