| 833850 | 2009-11-26 06:57:00 | Howdy folks I've never actually set up a Windows Dual Boot before, and I have used the google to find out my problem. Unfortunately I think I've done it the wrong way, so I just want to check with you first before I reinstall everything. I reformatted my HDD, and installed Windows 7 Home Premium. I then created a Partition, and installed Windows XP Pro on that. Now how do I switch OS at start up? When I pressed F8>Select OS only XP showed. I THINK I remember a topic here.. and I think for memory I had to install XP first, then Windows 7... is that correct? And is that the only way, on the start up F8 option to switch between? I've Dual Booted with Macs, but with Boot manager, and all you have to do is hold down the Options button at start up to select otherwise, it's the primary set OS. So, any help would be appreciative. ALSO... Windows7 found all my drivers - tis why I =3 it - however, if I were to use Driver Magician, and then go to my WindowsXP Partition and use the backup from Win7, would everything be sweet as sugar? I mean I could probably work it out eventually, but you guys may have some great idea or something. So just checking. Cheers! |

Nope dont think XP will install all (or any drivers). You may get drivers through device manager / windowsupdate option. But you would probably have to install the NIC drivers first. Or you may have to reinstall all of them. I wouldnt use driver magician for XP, if the drivers werent for XP. Or if the drivers are for 64 bit. They wont work in 32 bit | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||

If I backup with Driver Magician from my Windows 7 Partition which found every driver and works perfectly, then restarted, went on to my XP partition and restored them, would that work? |

They may or may not. Only way to find out is to try it. You'll find out if they dont work, one of the drivers will probably crash XP. Or whatever device wont work |

| 833855 | 2009-11-26 07:06:00 | Would have been better to load XP first, then Windows 7 as it would have created a Dual boot automatically. BUT not all is lost, you can try EasyBCD (neosmart.net) - I know it works on Vista/XP, so should work in W7 / XP. Load it into Windows7 or what ever OS is bootable -screen shots and documentation right under the download button. Once both OS's are loaded, when you boot, it " Should" give you the option to boot into one or the other. |

| 833858 | 2009-11-26 07:54:00 | You will have to load in the XP & W7 drivers as if it were a single OS install. The driver / reg location for drivers in W7 will be different to XP. Simply download the drivers for each OS from the manufactures site -- In other words, " Do it right the first time" ;) |
