834220 2009-11-29 00:13:00 wainuitech Yea format HDD before the 32bit Install as part of the Install.

Jaysee No I have two purchases of Win 7 Upgrade. 2 packs, 2 CD's in each, two Keys etc etc etc.

It will not install without the key, it gets to that point I can not go any further.

The first 64bit install on this PC went fine, PLUS the 32 bit on the other PC went fine.

I will try formatting the HDD with a third party app tomorrow instead of letting the Win7 Install format it and try the 32bit install again.

OK, one reason I am taking an interest in this is that your experience seems to be similar to mine in a couple of respects. I have already suggested a way forward if Windows refuses to activate, but what you are seeing looks like something else. When you say "can not go any further" do you mean the system basically hangs?

That suggests the problem may not be with windows itself, but the installation DVD. I found that I could not install using the internal DVD drive in my PC. Installation got as far as the "expanding files" message and then just sat there. An hour later the progress indicator was still at 0%.

I then tried installing from a USB external DVD drive, and the whole process completed in a few minutes. DVDs and drives can be funny things, and there might be a marginal condition on your DVD that is causing a read problem at a certain point. Can you get access to a different drive to see if that will work? You might need to change your BIOS to boot from a USB device.

The other point to be aware of is one I mentioned before and was raised by JJJJJ: if you are installing an upgrade version it will look for a qualifying version of Windows on your HD. If you have already formatted your drive then of course an earlier installation won't be seen, so Windows will complain when you put in the key. I don't think the Custom installation literally re-formats the drive because you can see traces of the previous version when Windows 7 is finally running.

834222 2009-11-29 00:36:00 Epson NZ and Aus don't have anything for Win 7 32bit or 64bit
UK has epson325443eu.exe
USA has epson12181.exe
Epson 4990 Photo

Both install, both run the scan software, but both scan like its a kids cartoon, really.
It is either wait a few months on an update or try the 32bit install. Sine I am part way through the 32bit then that seems to be the way to go.

Have you tried a third party scanning utility? vuescan (http://www.hamrick.com/)isn't free, but there is a trial version.

834223 2009-11-29 17:54:00 Plod, I will upgrade it to Silverfast AI. The SE one i had was great, but Ai looks even better. Its only about 119 Euro. Since I use the scanner 3 or 4 days a week well worth while. My SE version came with the scanner but is too old for Win7 Bantu (52)
