I also hate when right leaning people talk about the Labour party as "communist" Good political debate rather than reactionary name calling works for me. Cheers HH OK. I thought you were stating the bleeding obvious and doing the same thing by calling me "lefty". Of course I am a lefty (that is no secret), and of course I was using it in a derogatory way. I have probably understood what Tory means for about 50 years. Here is the meaning I was using: "A supporter of traditional political and social institutions against the forces of democratization or reform; a political conservative." I think that is an accurate representation of the current blue party. |

Its time for changes get used to it and get over it. Stop whinging like my kids when they told to do some work. Well, seeing we are descending to that level, I could call you a snivelling toadie of the tory right. Whenever you post, you seem to think that calling someone a pinko, commy, leftist, whatever, that there is some force to your argument. You don't deal with the issue, which is that the new government (your chums) are not even sworn in and they have broken their first promise. If it was Labour you would be screaming blue murder and calling them commies. Because it is the blue party you seem to think it is OK (oops, sorry, I have accused you of thinking - that will never do). |

Typical Cicero post - no substance, no new ideas, always comes in behind someone else with no new point to add. Still, I don't expect anything from someone who squats on what used to be productive land, so I am never disappointed. | John H (8) | ||
| 720800 | 2008-11-17 08:18:00 | Well, it didn't take long. The tories are going to investigate bulk funding of teachers' salaries, having promised on the campaign that they would not do that. Apparently forced into it by their loony right wing mates in Act. I don't recall them saying that....why dont you tell us why your against this and what you fear the outcome to be...any government has to compromise on policy....Labour got away with that for years. |

| 720802 | 2008-11-17 08:27:00 | I was a Board of Trustee on a school board for for six years. The school was never better off than when we could decide what to do with our (bulk) allocated funds. The school went downhill financially when Helen cancelled bulk funding (which is probably what you'll find with most schools around NZ, although, admittedly, the cancellation of bulk funding is only a contributing factor)... | johcar (6283) | ||
| 720803 | 2008-11-17 08:56:00 | Johno, my point is that the term is just unbelievably outdated and inaccurate. I also hate when right leaning people talk about the Labour party as "communist" Good political debate rather than reactionary name calling works for me. Cheers HH Tory has always been synonymous with Conservative and/or right wing and was never intended as an insult. Some members of the Tory party would wear the appellation as a badge of honour and it is not generally considered name calling unless preceded by thieving, lying, cheating, robber baron, dishonest, untrustworthy, deceitful or some other appropriate epithet. Interestingly, the Labour movement has never really been called communist either, that has generally been saved for the genuine reds under the beds. Socialist or left wing has been more common but I think liberal or democrat appears in some systems. Good to see that Smiley Smith the grinning leprechaun has been locked out of the cabinet room, and Maurice "the mouth" Williamson has been sidelined as speaker. Those whom the Gods would destroy they first make mad, so that is the end of him, taken right out of the play by a left hook he never saw coming, but thoroughly deserved. Cheers Billy 8-{) :clap |
