720342 2008-11-16 22:33:00 Thanks.

I think for hiring, go for cheap specials.

If I were to get a flash one I mind as well buy a $10k 2002 model Beamer. Going with that Avis link it is $200 per day free km is 100km then extra is charged for it. If I drive from Christchurch to Queenstown and back to Christchurch, for 2 weeks that's pretty expensive. $2,800 without adding the extra km's.

720343 2008-11-17 01:08:00 If you are picking up and dropping back at ChaCha, have a look here:

yellow.co.nz There are umpteen pages of rental car firms there in ChCh, not just the big three. There is a firm here that specialises in renting sports cars too!

There will be firms in the YP list that are cheaper than Avis, though the service may not be as flash. Friends of mine hired a little Japanese car for a week from some firm in ChaCha, and it cost diddly squat. Sorry I can't recall the name of the firm.

720344 2008-11-17 01:42:00 Nomad if you are planning on going to Queenstown via Christchurch, then maybe check out newzealand4wdhire.co.nz I hired a Landrover from them for about 16 days last Xmas. Although it was a Petrol V8 and thus gas was not cheap it still worked out a LOT cheaper than hiring say a 4 door sedan off Avis. It was a few years old and had a few loose bits but allowed us to do a bit of off road and some photography I would not normally have done.

We did CHCH, Hokitika, Haast, Wanaka, Queenstown, Te Anau, Milford, Queenstown, Cromwell, Tekapo, CHCH.

I did a trip up to Macetown with Nomad Safaris, although I found out later I could have taken the Landrover instead.

They pickup and dropoff at CHCH Airport, great service indeed. They do other vehicles as well and also have their yard adjacent to Rent-A-Dent and work with them.
