834569 2009-11-29 10:26:00 I think it is finalized now. As of end of Oct this year. By the looks of it.

Uhh what?

834570 2009-11-29 11:04:00 I am really lucky I guess.

I have had a an ADSL DSL 302G for around 5 years now. This was bought from Dick Smiths in Hamilton as I did not want a free modem and disconnection fees.

Warm to the touch and not melting.

834571 2009-11-29 11:36:00 Uhh what?

Wireless N is finalised. NOT in draft

Oh right, didn't realise what you were talking about. In that case is it better to spend the extra $$$ and get a router with wireless-n?

834573 2009-11-29 16:37:00 Apparently speedy is right: en.wikipedia.org

And no, there's no need to rush out and buy all N-Wireless gear. Fact of the matter is the extra bandwidth is nice, but you're just as well off buying yourself a moddable router that you can put a larger antenna on and up the power output on than you are with an N-Wireless router for most home / soho use.

Also, look at it this way: Even if by some miracle you obtain the max 24m/bit of ADSL2+, your G-Wireless is a max of 54mbps, WAY more than ADSL or even VDSL2 is in NZ. So you're fine with G-Wireless unless you're doing frequent transfer of large files, additional HD content streaming, whatever ...

So if I do get one, will my speeds increase when copying files from PC to PC with Wifi?

And how much do these antennas cost and will they increase my speed?

834575 2009-11-29 19:18:00 So looking at what Speedy says, that -n gear are available;
What are the best options for VOIP/router/modem hardware right now?

834576 2009-11-29 20:01:00 I think I'll get this (www.computerlounge.co.nz) one here. Where do I find out if this is compatible with Tomato? xyz823 (13649)
834577 2009-11-29 22:25:00 Still tomato runs solid. All the free modems given out with ISP's struggle under VoIP load. One call maybe fine, but I wouldn't trust them.

As I said earlier, ADSL Routers aren't compatible. N isn't compatible with Tomato either. It's one or the other....
