834475 2009-11-28 23:37:00 It would be nice to know what make and model the hard drive is.

A physical 40 Gig hard drive after formatting will contain less usable space than that. 40 x 1000 is not the same as 40 x 1024 either for that matter.

The main thing to do would be to remove files you can do without anyway.

Cheers,
Mike.

I know how to get more space than the 500mb that's there... what I want to know is where the other 8.5gb has gone and how to get that back.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Mike.

834478 2009-11-29 21:42:00 Install WinDirStat and let it examine your disk. It gives a good pictorial view of your disk and may help you find out where the space has gone. AvonBill (11358)
