834073 2009-11-27 21:06:00 mate i don't ask for help unless i do actually need it.

Don't be such a smartass! You asked for help and that's the most common issue. Due to your lack of explanation with regards to steps already taken to diagnose the issue, it's best to start at the basics.

Snap at a member again like that and it's 24 hours in the sin-bin, understand?

834076 2009-11-27 21:55:00 Right after the telling off - people here go out of their way to help - like what I have just done.

I had XP mode installed on a Workshop PC uninstalled it to try installing on Drive D - it worked fine, now weather it was because it had been on C before I dont know - please try this,

Make sure you have the correct files from step 3 microsofts site (www.microsoft.com) -- Install the larger file first - then the smaller.

As long as you have at least 2GB on drive C - install it there first, see if it runs OK ---

Assuming it loads OK, uninstall XP mode from Drive C then Reboot, now reinstall it again, by default it will unpack to Drive C: (you CANT change this location) with a random folder name 464MB - then when going to install, browse to a folder you want on Drive D - allow it to install - thats all I did and it worked perfectly, no prompts for admin etc.

When installed XP mode takes up 1.13GB of drive space.

Plod- dont know where you got that list from re the CPU support, if I'm reading it correctly - according to it the E7500 and 5300 (www.imagef1.net.nz) are not supported -- Some one got it wrong ;) 5300 XP Mode (www.imagef1.net.nz) and 7500XP Mode (www.imagef1.net.nz) (changed the desktop Wall paper on the 7500, customers PC, hate blank screens) The 7500 is the main Setup I use and it works fine.

That list was from slashgear (www.slashgear.com), it would seem after following a link (www.tcmagazine.com) that intel have enabled it on the cpu that didn't support it previosly. Should really look at dates before I post:D My point was that not all cpu's are capable, which I'm sure you knew but some might not of.

Thats cool - not all Motherboards support virtualization either, got one workshop PC, E5300 - but the Boards older and doesn't support it  wainuitech (129)
834079 2009-11-27 23:41:00 I have a problem with it:eek:

Here is the message I get, once I get past the first stage of setting password, updates etc. (just when I think it's going well).

"cannot start Windows Virtual PC while another virtualization software is running. Please close the other virtualization software and try again".

I don't (as far as I know) have any other virtualization software on this machine.
The only thing I can think of in this regard is the virtualization setting in the BIOS; but turning that off doesn't make sense?

834080 2009-11-27 23:51:00 sometimes i get that message after ive closed FF and had to check in task manager to close it . try there GameJunkie (72)
834081 2009-11-27 23:52:00 Thanks for the posts. I will be doing it on a clients laptop so they can use Quickbooks. Quikbooks NZ is not going to be compatible with Win 7 until March or May next year and will require a few $100 to upgrade. Thought I'd give XP Mode a go and going by the posts here should be no prob.

I haven't played with Win 7 yet as most of my clients are still on XP Pro (business networks etc) but will have Win 7 here soon to play with.

Cheers

834082 2009-11-27 23:53:00 What if anything is showing in Task Manager relating to virtualization software - this is without the install of XP mode running of course. ? wainuitech (129)
