721515 2008-11-19 23:34:00 I am looking at buying a 40 inch LCD HDTV.

I am not sure to go for Samsung or Sony. From what i read they have comparable picture quality and Sony is only expensive due to brand name.

Any thoughts on which is better or any other brand.

Thanks

721516 2008-11-19 23:37:00 Sony all the way. Not that samsung are bad by any means, but the Sony is definitley the nicer TV.

I use a 40" Sony V Series a bit, and man is it nice.

The new sony LED backlit TVs look very nice. They only backlight the areas that need light, rather than backlighting the entire screen. I am going to wait for those to get more affordable, and I don't need a new TV at the monent.

721521 2008-11-20 05:47:00 Another vote for Sony.

Very happy with mine, enough external ports to cover all your HD needs, I think mine's got 3 HDMI ports, 2/3 Composite etc etc.

Awesome with Freeview, but my favorite is a PS3 for watching blue-ray movies and of course games in HD.

Make sure you get one with HD freeview built in. They have just release a new 40 inch one, but it is more expensive than the model it replaced, but it does have 200hz motion, for $3500. Pay another $100 and they will give you a PS3 for blueray movies.

I think that you find that Sony have Jacked the price of these sets by about $400 to cover the inclusion of the PS3 si in reality your paying $500 for the PS3. This is definatly the case with new 46" sets..
