Shell says dropping global demand for crude oil is flowing through to decreases in the cost of the refined product.

Eh? I smell BS here.

How does a decrease in demand make the cost of production cheaper?

They're covering up that they made it expensive just because they could, I guess.

719928 2008-11-12 23:42:00 It doesn't make production cheaper - they never claimed that.

Think of it this way: if you're baking a cake, and the price of ingredients drops, your cake is obviously going to be cheaper. The same thing is happening here.

719929 2008-11-12 23:42:00 More surprised that they even attempted to justify it. Thebananamonkey (7741)

They didn't try to justify anything, they just gave a one-line explanation as to why they were dropping prices by such a large amount.

719932 2008-11-12 23:51:00 A barrel of oil costs less than half of what it did when petrol was $2.20 a litre.

Someone in Saudi Arabia is still making billions.

Meh, they can't justify anything.

Money doesn't justify.
