The Optical drive is more than likely stuffed, due to small particles of exploded CD.

A CD exploding shouldn't have any affect on windows loading unless you were trying to do some sort of repair work on XP ?? Were you doing something to the OS when the CD exploded??

Going by the way the questions are written there appears to be two separate problems -- Is this the case ???

833840 2009-11-26 07:51:00 Hi Manimea, welcome to the F1 forums!

We probably do need a bit more of a background history first.

This disk that shattered, was it just some game or program? And it shattered while it was reading it, inside the drive?

Okay, and so. Now when you turn the PC on. The CDROM Drive continually ejects and won't stop? And now Windows don't load either, nor in safe mode? What are the error messages. Does anything appear on the screen when you turn the PC on? Are there any sounds at all?

So, you just recently reinstalled the operating system, and now you've got this problem is that correct? Alright.

If you have any more details you can think of, or need to clarify something I've interpreted from your post, please say so.

One of the experts will assist shortly.

833841 2009-11-26 08:36:00 I just reinstalled my xp on my pc.

I was restalling programs from disk to my pc.

I put the disk with programs into my cdrom drive. While cdrom drive started to read to disk, there was a loud noise, then bang.

I put the eject button on my drive, the disk is shattered to pieces. I get out the pieces.

Turn off the pc.

Then I turned the pc on. After I pushed the Power button, the cdrom drive keep on ejecting. XP loaded. But cdrom drive keep ejecting.

Then I turned off the pc, turn on again. cdrom drive keep ejecting but XP will not load.

I pushed reset, use Safe Mode. But XP will not load. And the CDRom drive still keep on ejecting.

There was no error message.

In Safe Mode. After selected XP, onto the next screen, loading the files then it got struck there. No going anywhere.

833842 2009-11-26 08:58:00 Sounds a bit like when the CD / program you were installing in and the CD explode, it may have been at a critical point, and damaged the OS in the process.

The optical Drive -- Consider it knackered - when a CD explodes tiny pieces go every where, this usually results in internal damage, thats why its opening and closing all the time, some small pieces are still in the mechanics of it.

You "may" be able to get the PC going again, but the optical drive more than likely needs replacing.

Ignore the Optical drive for the moment, or with the PC off, take the side off the case and disconnect it.

See if you can start the PC in safemode with command prompt - if you can there is a way of running system restore back to before the program failed.

Heres How:

1. Boot into Safe mode with Command Prompt – Keep Pressing F8 at start-up then with the arrow keys select Safe mode with Command prompt.
. At the command prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe <Press Enter>

Follow onscreen instructions and run system restore back to before that program blew.

If that doesn't work, or wont boot in to safemode with command prompt, you will need to use the windows CD, but that drive has to be fixed / replaced first.

833843 2009-11-26 09:51:00 Yeah, disconnect power and data to the CD drive and try again Agent_24 (57)
833844 2009-11-26 10:03:00 Thanks .

But I was not installing anything from the disk when it shattered . I just insert the disk into my drive . Then it just go bang and shattered in pieces while my drive was reading it .

833845 2009-11-26 10:09:00 I would still disconnect the drive and see if it then boots normally. Sweep (90)
833846 2009-11-26 19:15:00 Hi Manimea

Do you know how to disconnect the CD drive? You need to open the cover, and remove the two/three plugs connecting to it. Just remember to hold on to the case chassis, to avoid any static disturbance. You will need to pull out the plugs with a bit of a strong hand as they get a bit tired and won't come out easily.

Have a quick visual here, if you are unfamiliar with what it looks like.

Once you've taken the plugs out. Reboot the PC and report back to us.
