723325 2008-11-27 00:39:00 Why is Coral-Ellen murdered, but the rest beaten to death? I find the language behind it all quite strange.

I agree, it's the most amazingly sad thing. And the fact that almost all of them are brown makes me even sadder.

If you were to take the news at face value, you'd have every right to think that every Islander or Maori person is a thieving murdering psychopath. I find that the saddest thing of all. I know stereotypes get that way for a reason, but it feels like a self fulfilling prophecy to me.

And the evil step-parent seems to come up a bit.

My old boss used to have a theory that all of those names with too many y's, z's and h's were just murder victims waiting to happen. And when you look at it, he's quite right.

723326 2008-11-27 00:43:00 Imagine how many more there would be without the anti smacking legislation.

Tougher sentencing is what is needed.

But when you are dealing with complete morons, I would guess they would not understand the consequences.

Fair comment, too late to edit. My bad. To answer your question, Coral-Ellen was murdered whereas most of the other children were physically hit and neglected, until their bodies/damaged brains gave up. For most of them it was a long death.

However that's just semantics. The fact is some families are completely outside the law and despite thundering in Parliament and on TV, nothing has changed. The kids are still dying.

723328 2008-11-27 01:21:00 The "anti smacking legislation" is rubbish. The people that harm these kids would take no notice of any laws like that anyway.

The morons that do this type of damage definitely need tougher penalties.

Delcilia wasn't killed by her mother. Her mother did nothing to protect her but she didn't actually hit her herself.

Jyniah wasn't killed by her parents - she was killed by the babysitter.

Small points but important.

And some people are *******s. Makes no difference what legislation is around.
Make it necessary to get a license to breed and it might end the problem.

723330 2008-11-27 01:29:00 I dont thing many of the mothers should of been allowed to have kids in the 1st place if you ask me...however what right do we have to stop them, other than the fact they live off the welfare.....
If I had my way, each of those above responsible would be put to death by injection, done and dusted, no parole or taxpayer funding to worry about, however it would never happen due to too many bleeding heart liberals..

723331 2008-11-27 04:09:00 The only people who can stop the abuse are neigbours they hold the key.
If they come out and say after the fact and say they saw cruelty heard yelling etc but didnt want to nark they should be jailed.
Next door neighbours always see and hear abuse and some dont report it they should do a few years in jails so they can reflect on their stink civic duties.

723332 2008-11-27 06:07:00 One of the effects of socialism is to breed a group of people who have no values,on a par with beasts.
So that being the case, how can one expect to resolve the dilemma.?

I don't think doing the haka endlessly will help, but I could be wrong.
