722290 2008-11-23 20:41:00 I think I just caught the last blurb on the radio (yes, I listen to the radio too) about PC-Magazine going broke and dumping all the writers who insisted on actual money for their work. Those who don't can stay and work at the on-line version.

Ah, yes! Save another tree for me too! Electrons are cheap!

722291 2008-11-23 22:41:00 If you're really into computers, most people don't actually buy the magazines anymore with the abundance of online content. They just cut their losses, which I imagine were astronomical.

And yes, I realise the irony of posting this on a PC mags' website.

722292 2008-11-23 22:44:00 Yeah..thought so..but I am in defiance of that logic, at least with Wired! Magazine.

No electrons can replace the size, heft and breath of life that holding the actual magazine can supply.

It's too cheap to refuse...the postage alone will gobble up the subscription cost.

722293 2008-11-23 23:03:00 With you on that one, wired! is a good magazine.

I think it really depends on how much the magazine contributes to anything, and wired does. A lot of PC mags are just a "best of the web", and explanations of what RAM and CPU's are, with some camera and printer reviews thrown in. Tame and lame mostly. And nothing that a google search couldn't supercede.

722294 2008-11-23 23:17:00 PC Magazines comes in weekly in Asian country like Hong Kong, Taiwan instead of monthly like here which by the time you get the magazine, it is somewhat outdated. This is the only thing that stops me from buying monthly PC magazines... SKT174 (1319)
722295 2008-11-24 00:22:00 Yes articles in PC Magazine's can at least be up to 6 weeks or more old by the time you get it.

722296 2008-11-24 02:40:00 not to mention that the reviews in PC magazines are typically low quality. Because they review all sorts of hardware, magazine reviews will never ever be as in depth as a website dedicated to a particular component, for example a review on tft central will be longer and substantially more detailed than any lcd review in any consumer PC magazine, at best.

At worst, from what I have read in some magazines (apc in particular), the information is just plain wrong and don't even touch on the important details. The few PC magazines I DO read are NZ PC world and Australian PC User.

722297 2008-11-24 05:21:00 supercede.

Merriam-Webster dictionary says

usage -- Supercede has occurred as a spelling variant of supersede since the 17th century, and it is common in current published writing. It continues, however, to be widely regarded as an error.

So there, bananamonkey !!
