835618 2009-12-01 23:48:00 I have a couple of DVR's that our security team use which are basically linux boxes with 3 hard drives in each. As we're always looking to keep more and more footage, I'd like to upgrade the drives, but as the boxes are now over 4 years old, they're IDE, and large IDE drives are getting very expensive, and don't seem to be bigger that 750Gb.

Would it be feasible to use an adapter for SATA drives to run on IDE connections, or could this cause issues?

are the DVR's pc based or stand alone?
how many cameras are they running?

one thing to watch with addon PCI cards is the PCI bus tends to get flooded with lots of data. with a PCI capture card, lan card and PCI storage card it may run to slow to keep up with the amount of data.

you could use IDE-SATA adaptors but motherboard may have trouble dealing with large drives or if standalone they often just don't work with units.
