835291 2009-12-15 19:52:00 Hi All.

Does MSE have a built in firewall? I have it installed on an old laptop running XP. It passes the `Shields Up` test OK. Could that result be something to do with the router? If it doesn`t have a firewall built in can one such as Comodo or Outpost be run alongside MSE without problems. Sort of `belt and braces` approach?

Cheers and best wishes for the festive season to all those on this website who have helped me in the past!

MSE does not I think.
Comodo is my preference (I use the older 2 series as I find it less intrusive and chatty)
It works with MSE O.K.

835295 2009-12-19 04:51:00 Could it turn on Windows Firewall? Took out AVG and installed MSE on husband's computer and everything slowed down terribly. Trying to figure out why and thought of that. Sure enough the firewall was back on - it had been turned off in favour of Kerio. Everything's quicker now but still going through various other checks. katharinem (3459)
835296 2009-12-19 04:54:00 Also if you run the network setup wizard it will turn Windows Firewall back on, even if Windows already knows you are using some other firewall Agent_24 (57)

Yes - if it is a DSL router.

835298 2009-12-20 02:29:00 I've seen that a few times, sometimes some PC's / Laptops appear to take a few minutes for it to turn on, it would show up as red, then after a short while go green .

A couple I have had to manually start the service the first time by clicking the red button in the general tab / page .

Another few I have had to remove it, then reinstall it and it works OK --- Dont know why this happens ???

I've tried to remove with add/remove programs and CCleaner . I can't remove MSSE . Whats the best way to remove?
