722691 2008-11-28 09:24:00 I had a 68 Morris Oxford that did in a coil every 6000 miles without fail, all the auto electricians I consulted told me there was nothing wrong with the electrics.
I got in the habit of carrying a spare new Lucas coil from Halfords in the boot.
When the coil packed it in to schedule, I fitted the new one, cleaned the old one up with white spirits, and took it back to Halfords complaining bitterly, to be given a replacement FOC - worked very time.

722692 2008-11-28 09:27:00 I had a mitsi sigma about 15 years ago, clocked up megamillage, never had an issue and was awesomely good on the gas. Probably one of the better cars like that ive had, the only thing I didnt like was it was small. Not really made for 6footplus people. rob_on_guitar (4196)

Did you not notice it was small when you bought said car?

722694 2008-11-28 19:21:00 I only noticed the small price, and it was worth it! It was like escort small, just the leg room was a bit harsh after a long trip. rob_on_guitar (4196)
722695 2008-11-29 00:40:00 Our Corrolla 1.3 goes all over the South island with out any problems. When I lived in England I had a 2CV as I had a few accidents when younger and needed to get some no claims bonus back and the 2CV was the cheapest car I could insure. Sold it to a mates Dad who then turned it into a replica 3 wheel Morgan (rear centre wheel one) courtesy of a kit company looked great then and felt like you were going real fast being so close to the ground in an open cockpit gary67 (56)

There must have been a reason coil even one from the prince of darkness would last 6000 miles.
I had a 59 Series 2 Oxbox with same 1622 as S5 it had original. I have seen vintage cars from the 20s and millions of miles on the odo with original coil.
It could have been a condensor problem or position of the coil, clever people used to reposition the coil so that it never faced down.
Reason oil from inside coil if hot would find its way around seal on screw on HT output and make a bad connnection

I would say it's a bit late to sort now.

So your point was?

Sorry wont happen again (until next time)

722700 2008-11-30 21:24:00 For long trips a 1.5-1.6 would be ideal. But also make sure the seats are comfy and it has
AC.
