722681 2008-11-27 04:18:00 The error in that thinking,is that applies to English cars of yore, not the modern Jap car.

I may well be influenced in my thinking by days of yore :)

Which reminds me, you would also remember this Cic. When Shell first introduced Shell X100 possibly around 1960, they inadvertantly added too much detergent.

The consequence was that all the old cars that had built up sludge in the sump and varnish coatings on the bearings from years of use of 'straight' SAE 30 mineral oil, suddenly had all this crap released into the lubrication system.
There were cars with seized engines all over England..........

They also added too much detergent to steam turbine oils which negated the anti-foaming agents, the consequence was steam turbines foaming at the mouth all over the generator hall floors :)

722684 2008-11-27 06:11:00 The English cars of yore that I recall spent much of the time pottering in and out of repair facilities in vain attempts to thwart the Lucas immobiliser devices they were all fitted with in lieu of an electrical system. R2x1 (4628)

Do take that back R2x1,I don't want to see Terry in tears.
He worked at Lucas, imagine if you were working for the likes of that lot,oh shudder shudder.

He must have been the only thing to come out of Lucas that worked?

It's strange how almost every company I worked has been closed down and long since gone :)

Joseph Lucas (Gas Turbine and Group Research), English Electric, GEC, Horstman Gear/Gauge and Metrology/Aerostatic, DSIR.

The only exception is Flight Refuelling, perhaps I wasn't there long enough to cause any damage :clap

As strange and as unbelievable as it may seem to some, I never had any problems with Lucas electrical equipment on all the bikes and cars I had in the UK.

That can't be said for the Miller rubbish :badpc: that was fitted as OEM to series B and C Vincents. That was removed asap, and replaced with good Lucas stuff that I had specially selected from the factory or the Racing Department:banana
