www.tomshardware.com

Macs versus Windows PCs versus Linux PCs

Very interesting.

Makes good reading and seems relatively unbiased for a change.

Mac don't manufacture the screens, they buy them and brand them, Just like any other company can and does do.

They just do a lot of marketing, and people that buy into the marketing rather then put brain into gear.

Sure Apple don't actually make the monitors just like they don't make any other hardware but they are designed by Apple and manufactured to their own specifications.

723186 2008-11-26 21:26:00 Apple don't design the screens either.

Nor do they design any of the other components.

Their biggest contribution to their own systems hardware is the "stylish" look.

723187 2008-11-27 08:42:00 You can, but it will have rather unpleasant consequences - it's against the forum rules.

It is legal if you buy the Leopard DVD yourself-and then put an apple sticker on your computer, on the License agreement it says "You may only install Leopard on an apple branded machine"

:clap

723188 2008-11-27 08:51:00 Why do we have this problem with Apple users not realising Windows is best, can 90% of the people be wrong. Cicero (40)
723189 2008-11-27 08:59:00 90 percent of the people can easily be wrong.

Windows has its pro's and cons, and Vista is a massive con, If that's what the world biggest software company releases as their premier product then they are doing us no favours and its only their market share and business model that keeps them going, not their product.

They should be making great software, not great bloatware.

What you have just said, has been said many times on here.
Just can't See Bill sitting with 2 thousand program writers and saying, lets write some crap to annoy Metla.

723191 2008-11-27 09:31:00 I'm positive they made the best damn software they were capable of, Sadly I would have expected something far far superior, Hell, unlimited resources, massive market share, billions of dollars rolling in every day, what a position to be in, money, time, talent, heritage,, ...ta...da...VISTA....thunk!!!

right, whats next?

Hmmm...how about VISTA with more bloat?

coool, lets do that....we can call it Windows 7.Lets start repackaging the same hype we used for Vista.

coooooool.

723192 2008-11-27 09:41:00 I have no idea how these things work, but I think it's to do with making it easy for Mr average, that means trying to think of everything and that just ain't possible.
Look at legislation, they try to make a good law,but can never think of all the ramifications that can arise.

723193 2008-11-27 09:55:00 Personally i'd have to say that the "on an apple branded machine" clause sounds like a good way to exclude most of the market for themselves. Also I believe it wouldn't hold under a few countries law (The EU made a ruling against such a restriction in EULAs if memory serves). If it were to be legal and practical to run OS X on any old machine I think a good number more people would consider it as a true alternative to Windows which is currently a one horse race. stormcloud (14361)
