723209 2008-11-27 01:54:00 I totally agree with roddy_boy.

Seeing a lot of Asian driving schools teaching is a bit of a worry in this area, I would like to hope that they are teaching newbies better that the drivers see locally on the roads.

723210 2008-11-27 03:32:00 Interesting. I see rubbish driving every day and most of the the drivers doing it are resolutely white, young and male. Biggles (121)
723211 2008-11-27 04:03:00 Generalisations usually occur because there is a grain of truth to them - people recognise trends, even subconsciously.

When I was a courier rider/driver back in the 80's (the good old days!), the maxim was less racial: look out for cabbies and bus drivers, look out for "hat" drivers - beware the flat caps! - and if you saw a cab driver wearing a flat cap approaching you, do an emergency u-turn and get the hell out of the way!! :D

723212 2008-11-27 07:20:00 I don't see why car manufacturers could make their products so they can withstand minor scrapes without incurring stupid amounts to fix them e.g. bumpers are not bumpers anymore. They DO get scratched but most are painted and therefore it doesn't take much damage to cause them to be resprayed.

I have a 10 year old nissan so I don't mind if it gets a another small scratch (I used to mind!!). Theres more to life than having a car which looks like it came out of the showroom yesterday (having said that I like the look of a nice car but at the end of the day they are designed to be used).

723213 2008-11-27 17:14:00 Some of the car park problem is the poor design of carparks. Most are designed to maximize the number of car parking spaces, not the easy flow of traffic. Hornby Mall in Christchurch use to be a real shocker, if you when in to the AMI office in the mall the first question they asked use to be "did you have an accident in the mall carpark?".
It's improved slightly but its still pretty poor.

But then they start to add up .

If you don't mind everytime you get a little dent/scratch on your car, what's your car going to look like in a years time?

I have an 18 year old Nissan and if some prick opens his door into my car I'll get out and have a go at him (if he leaves a mark) .

After all, it's my car, and I want to make as much money back as I can on it when I go to sell it .

Dent my car and you'll regret it .
