| 722652 | 2008-11-25 03:33:00 | When we moved I drove my 1.3L stuffed full Toyota from Auckland to Southland. No problems except when going up hills behind husbands diesel ute. It was either speed up and pass him (which annoyed him) or change down, then change down again and watch the traffic pile up behind us. And my father drove all over the Sth Island in an Armstrong Siddeley. 8 point turns on the hairpin bends and all that............... |

| 722658 | 2008-11-25 04:26:00 | Personally after having all sorts of cars, mostly cheap and sometimes nasty, I have always felt 1600 was the right size for our family in terms of punting along around 100 kph, getting up hills without too much drama, and economy. We have two 1600cc cars at the mo - one is a saloon and the other is a full time 4wd wee station wagon. We go to the Coast a lot, and Parthurs Arse is fine with two adults, sometimes a grandrugrat, gear etc. At one stage in our life we moved from Akl to Golden Bay and on one trip down the car (a 1500 Mitsi Mirage wagon) was loaded so full that I could barely move - the passenger's seat was loaded with so much gear I could just move the gear shift and that was it. It went over Takaka Hill like a slow dream. Mind you, it never seemed to be the same on its springs after that trip. Personally, cars for me are a necessary evil - I have been a motorcycle man since I was 16; perhaps my lack of interest in cars is reflected in my taste in cars and satisfaction with 1600cc. It isn't the same as having a heap of cc's throbbing away between your knees really, is it? |
