Not the way to do the Sth Island. You need to pick a few of the best places and take your time there.

True.
I wanted to stay in Milford Sounds and Queenstown a little longer.

721872 2008-11-22 01:46:00 Often a whirlwind trip is good if you don' t know much about the places you're visiting - gives you a better idea of what to go back and do more thoroughly next time... johcar (6283)

721874 2008-11-22 21:30:00 Day 17:

Day 18:
Ended up at Dunedin.
On the way I passed PCTek's workplace.
Some of the other tourists commented on the grubbiness of Dunedin. Noting the broken glass, poor house condition and overall state of some of them.

Depends what part of the city you're in, as the north end of Dunedin is where all the students live - it's an old area (as are other parts of the city), and this time of year there's a lot of huge parties as students prepare to leave. Can get very messy!!

We stayed about 500 metres from the botanic gardens to give you and idea of location.
Walking to Baldwin Street, I noticed a lot of broken glass on the ground. There was also a sawstika on the 'ball' monument on top of that hill overlooking the city

Yup - right in the middle of the student area - it's really disgraceful when kids from other parts of the country/world come down here and trash the place. I'm sure the locals contribute as well to be fair. Saddest part is that it seems to be getting worse each year. :(

Its the landlords too, no maintenance on their houses .

Then again seeing they rent to the students, its probably a losing battle anyway .
But yeah, its noticeably shabby .
