835321 2010-02-11 04:06:00 My, how times change. A few years ago no one on here would have touched an AV from MS with a barge pole

And I still won't - I'll stick with Avast

835322 2010-02-11 04:10:00 And I still won't - I'll stick with Avast Read Post 98 (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) - avast has turned to crap big time. wainuitech (129)
835323 2010-02-11 04:23:00 I don't like Microsoft AV either, I prefer Comodo, which doesn't want to run all that WGA rubbish.

Wainuitech, care to give Comodo a test on your infected hard drive?

835324 2010-02-11 04:53:00 Sure No worries, doing these as a "play" really, just something to do while waiting for real paying jobs to finish scans, installing etc.

Read that as trying to avoid doing paper work / gst returns which have to be done at some stage

835325 2010-02-12 22:47:00 Goto start/run, type regedit. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\SpyNet. Right mouse on spynet first / permissions, highlight your username / advanced / owner tab. Highlight your username , tick replace owner on subcontainers, and objects. Then tick OK, then OK Then in the right column double click on spynetreporting change it to 0. You'll know its disabled, if you open MSE and go to the settings tab / MS Spynet option. Neither option will be selected

Just installed MSE and followed your above instructions trying to disable the spynetreporting but the following error pops up:

"Cannot edit SpyNetReporting: Error writing the values' new contents"

OS: Win7 Ult x64

835328 2010-02-13 01:50:00 Yes, just tested it, that's the error that comes up if you try to edit the Local Machine settings as a standard user. To fix it, type regedit in the Start Menu search, right click on it and choose Run as Administrator.

cheers
