| 725340 | 2008-12-03 01:23:00 | Sent an ASUS laptop back under warranty due to a faulty wifi card. They tested with older model ASUS card, worked ok. They then order replacement and install, doesn't work. They test with a fresh Vista install and it works (they used the workshop HDD). I say leave the working one in as customer didn't want his laptop wiped. They then ring today and say the card stopped working so they need to wipe it and reinstall Vista. I say back up his data first. No, they won't unless he pays $80 + GST. So its coming back to me and I'll sort it. Why did I bother in the first place? And why shouldn't they figure out why it works one minute and not the next with his install that they blame instead of wanting to be lazy and wipe it? Pathetic. |

IF the hardware still plays up on a fresh install on the original PC/Laptop then change the hardware, or warranty it. Its a Basic , common way of testing, unless it something obvious like smoke coming out of it, obvious blown component. Probably the reason the older Card worked was because it uses different software/drivers to the newer one - partly proven by the fact that with a fresh install of vista the cards working - meaning it looks like a software problem = Drivers or the program to run the hardware. As we all know - if the problem is software/ drivers that is not a warranty problem. I wouldn't call it lazy - Asus tested the parts found it to point to software, not hardware = No warranty. Places like HP/Compaq tell you to run the factory Recovery first other wise if its proven to be software there is a charge. |
