2008-11-27 08:11:00 | OK here's a problem for you all :) I can't get into my garage. Door at the back I can't open due to missing key (yeah yeah I know, I should have got that replaced sooner). Garage door is automatic on a remote, and suddenly today it doesn't work (worked at 2:30pm, didn't work at 3:15pm). Bigger problem - the dog is locked in the garage  and I'd like to be able to let him out. Anyone know of a way to get a garage door open? Its a tilt-a-door, but I can't get it to open even with two of us pulling at the bottom - it won't budge at the top. I suspect the only way in will be to break a window, but I'm after any suggestions that mean I don't have to :D Any takers? :D Mike.

2008-11-27 08:56:00 | Considering it has been a relatively hot day throughout New Zealand today, I would act as quickly as I can to release the dog :p In some cases, it is cheaper to replace the door's lock than the window glass panel. Break wisely. :D Cheers and good luck :)

Break wisely. :DActually I thought about that - I just can't figure out how to break the door lock  Am gonna ring a garage door guy tomorrow morning. The dog has water, so he should be alright for the night. Mike. |

2008-11-27 09:18:00 | Depending on the garage, have a look at the window frames, a lot of them are easy to pull out and remove the glass. Failing that get one of the neighborhood kids, they can sometimes break in easy - never a burglar about when you need one :D Can the back door hinges have the pins knocked out - some have the pins externally ?

2008-11-27 09:27:00 | Hi Mike, I got into mine once by using a wire hook through the gap at the top of door & hooking hold of the cord that hangs down off the gadget that releases the drive so the door can be opened in a case where the power goes off. | jebby (4580) | |
