836581 2009-12-05 04:43:00 Here comes a really dumb question. :(

How do I check my router settings?

I have my suspicions about my wireless settings. The Telecom usage meter gives me some cause for thought. There are days with high usage (and I wouldn't usually look at the detail as I seldom go over my 3g limit unless I'm doing lots of downloading). Today I got the warning 80% usage email so had a look and there were at least three days with high usage (can't remember doing anything remarkable - and at least one of the days I was pretty tired. So work, a quick look at the internet and so to bed).

My router is a cheapy - a Belkin g - now getting pretty long in the tooth. I THINK my big son set things up with a pretty good password, but this may have changed in one of the reformats I did. I THOUGHT I had used the same password when I reformatted, and have just reinstalled the Acronis image since then. Well, I did, but I know how things go awry at times!

836582 2009-12-05 04:45:00 Formatting wont affect the settings in the router. You have to log into the router. I dont know what the ip address is, to log into it tho Speedy Gonzales (78)

836584 2009-12-06 00:00:00 Do you have to enter a password to connect to your wireless connection?
Does it use WEP or WPA of any kind?

If so, then you should be fine (although WEP can be cracked easily)

It's possible there is something on your PC downloading\uploading too much data, like a filesharing program or a virus.

Yes - I'm wondering about that... :(
