724991 2008-12-04 22:27:00 Are we talking about the same Coro Street?? I know it is not Shakespeare or Tom Stoppard or the National Theatre Company. Granted, some of the cast are definitely worse than others (Gail Platt and Steve McDonald for instance), and some of the scripwriting is a bit purple/shallow (Ashley and Claire), but compared with most of the other Soaps I have glimpsed, it stands up pretty well. 724993 2008-12-05 03:28:00 60 and love it! Never watched it in UK but gradually got into it. Some aof the acting is extremley good and the scriptwriting is of a high standard and surprisingly funny. Some of the humour is very subtle.
When Sir Ian McKellen (sp??) of LOR + Shakespearean actor played a cameo role for a couple of months, he was stunned at the professionalism of the cast. They learn their lines, no rehersals and one take. It helps that the producers have actors play themselves- slappers play slappers, thick, beer-swilling plonkers are just that.

724995 2008-12-05 06:49:00 I don't watch Coronation Street or any other soap but I do watch other TV programmes that would be considered rubbish by many people - eg Battlestar Galactica - One thing I notice about all the above critics of CS is that none mention what TV programmes they watch - Are they afraid we may laugh at their viewing habits - Also they seem to know all about the production values, the acting abilities and the story lines of the programme - Strange indeed Dally (6292)
724996 2008-12-05 22:02:00 The dreary dirge that is used for the theme music says it all KenESmith (6287)
