He was leader of the Federation of Labour, later called NZ Council of Trade Unions. He was succeeded by Jim Knox. www.dnzb.govt.nz Jim Knox is on the left and next to him on the right is Skinner. Bill Rowling to extreme right. His UK counterpart and contemporary was George Woodcock, he of the bushy eyebrows. He was leader of the TUC (Trades Union Congress), I think Secretary General was his title. www.unionhistory.info In actual fact both were gentlemen in the true sense of the word as would be acknowledged by fair minded people of either left or right persuasions. Edit:Woodcock was not exactly Skinners contemporary, he was about 20 years older. |
