| 836694 | 2009-12-05 08:15:00 | Hi all, It's ages since I've had cause to use a torrent, but just recently I've done about 4.5GB through torrents, on a vodafone/ihug account that was 'throttled' to dialup speeds due to the monthly data limit being hit. Anyway... I configured the torrent to work happily within the confines of the limited bandwidth available, and all was well, but once the files had finished downloading I thought I'd try releasing a bit of upload bandwidth (since there was no longer any pressure on the downloading traffic to coordinate the outgoing traffic... if you follow my logic (or the lack of). Anyway... I upped the outgoing to 14kB/s, and it went up to, and at times over that limit, so I boosted it to 16kB/s, same thing - all good... repeat the above process over and over, until currently I'm serving files at 64kB/s, all fine, and sustained... but on an account that is supposed to be good for little more than dialup. Now I'm used to the download rate being lousy, but this 'new' upload rate seems phenomenal by comparison. Have I missed something? Have domestic accounts had their data rates upped, or have the ihug teams and software simply stuffed up once again in my favour? I'm now currently pushing towards 100kB/s up without any issues. |

| 836696 | 2009-12-06 10:51:00 | Ihug/Voda have always seemed a bit funky to me. Up until not long ago if i set a download that would exceed the cap the internet would keep at full speed and then be capped shortly after it finished. SO the trick was obviously to keep downloading anything and everything til the cap reset to keep the full speed internet. Did yours do this paul? |

| 836698 | 2009-12-06 18:36:00 | Vodafone / Ihug were always like that, I used to be able to plan my data so I'd go over about 2-3 days prior to us hitting our limit. Provided the router didn't restart, things would hum along speedily for a few days. I'm not sure if it's just me, but back in the day they wouldn't 'cap' you until your router reconnected after you'd breached your limit. Same still applies? | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||
