836335 2009-12-04 03:50:00 I have just finished installing a fresh XP pro O/S on my PC.

I want to connect this PC to my wireless network which is run by this PC I am online with now.

I have a network key which I have sucessfully used before to connect other PC's (my wife's one) to the network/internet. But I'm having problems getting this code entered as the code is 10 characters long - it says it should be 5 or 13.
This new PC can see the network. I click on CONNECT and the light flashes on the Thompson TG123g adapter but no connection.
I have tried setting it to Use Windows to Configure my Network Automatically & the key is provided for me automatically - but no joy.

Any ideas welcome or maybe a link to how to set all the settings?

836336 2009-12-04 03:52:00 Is it up to date?? Did you install SP2, and 3? Have you installed the chipset drivers / and drivers as well? Speedy Gonzales (78)
836337 2009-12-04 03:58:00 No I haven't. Actually, I thought that may help so I've been searching around for my copies. I've found SP3 - but I suppose I can't put that on until I find/install SP2 - correct? straka01 (310)
836338 2009-12-04 04:03:00 Good question, I think you need SP2 to install SP3. But if SP1 is installed, installing SP3 MAY work. Speedy Gonzales (78)
836339 2009-12-04 04:14:00 This XP cd doesn't say if it has any service packs included. It's a 2002 version.
On the COA it says: Windows XP Pro 1-2CPU whatever that means. Is there an easy way to find out which (if any) service packs are installed?
Do I need SP1? I've found SP2 & SP3 - they're ready to install.

836340 2009-12-04 04:18:00 Installing SP2 then SP3 should work fine. You cant download SP1 now anymore (altho there is a small install file on the MS site). But, you have to stay online for it to install. I would say the cd you've got doesnt have any service packs on it Speedy Gonzales (78)
836341 2009-12-04 04:21:00 Checked in the MY PC - properties - it says SP1. So I'm loading up SP2 now. After I've put on SP3 I'll see if I have more luck connecting. Thanks straka01 (310)
836342 2009-12-04 04:23:00 You should have more luck. Because SP2/3 have more in them for wireless networking than SP1. Which doesnt have anything Speedy Gonzales (78)
836343 2009-12-04 06:15:00 Good news. It connected easily after I'd installed SP3. Well done Speedy & many thanks. straka01 (310)
