726795 2008-12-08 22:52:00 I have a Mazda Familia 1999, manual, fuel injection, that is constantly hesitating when in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear.
When I start the car, it idles fine, but as soon as I accelerate, it keeps bunny-hopping, so I have to ride the clutch (not good for the car, I know!) or change up a gear to stop it. It also loses a lot of power going up hills and even on flats doing 100kims, can pull back. This is getting highly annoying, not to mention bad for my car!
Have tried putting Fuel injection cleaner in the tank and cleaning out the air filter, neither have done any godd at all.
Just want to know what I may be up against before I take it to a mechanic - HELP - someone..........................

726796 2008-12-08 22:53:00 Have you replaced the fuel filter and checked the spark plugs?

Welcome to PressF1 BTW. :)

726797 2008-12-08 22:59:00 Not yet - it is on the list for Dad to do in the weekend though! thegenerallee (14392)
726798 2008-12-08 23:04:00 You havn't driven through a big puddle quickly or anything like that recently? Sometimes water can get into interesting places and cause problems.

I had this frequently with a SR-20, spark plug 'cover' wasn't sealing up correctly.

726799 2008-12-08 23:09:00 Thanks!
Not sure about the water thing. It's been going on for a little while now...................(yes I know, I'm a terrible woman driver).
It's the model just before the SR-20, so will get dad to check that as well.

726800 2008-12-08 23:14:00 :)

Being a Mazda Familia, and the SR-20 being a Nissan engine i don't think your Familia will have a SR-series engine in it. :p

Is yours a 1.6? I'ts probably got a ZM-DE engine or similar.

726801 2008-12-08 23:20:00 Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs\leads
Fresh fuel

check all of these and replace or fix as neccassary and it *Might* fix the problem

i had a simaler problem with my bike - give it any stick and it would die - turns out it sucked the air filter into the intake and choked itself - so your air filter might be clogged or stuffed - so get it checked out ;)

Edit: wratterus - a mate of mine once said he had a SRRB25DETTJZ4AGTE that could do a 8 second pass

after i slapped him around teh back of the head once or twice he fessed up to having a RB20E that could barley poke 155kmh ;)

726802 2008-12-08 23:22:00 yep, it's a 1.6. ZM-DE sounds familiar for some reason thegenerallee (14392)
726803 2008-12-08 23:24:00 Thats a fair enouph call

It will be a bj series which had a few different motors

automatic or manual?

Like said above spark plugs/ fuel filter / airfilter are all good to try

If you give me the rego I can look the model up

Classic.

I still need to get you some pics of the new Levin actually, must get onto that. I think I want to supercharge it. Got the Blacktop, the best one available. Makes the same power factory as a supercharged 16v 4age, but way less torque. Should be able to get 190hp and twice the standard torque from whacking a supercharger on it.:drool
