2008-12-06 21:43:00 | Well, Im looking at getting a new rig, something specially made for music. Now I hear the talk of Macs is where its at, but to be honest I hear no differance in the music I make on a pc and music I make on the mac. Although I enjoy both experiences, I find the pc much more as Im so used to it. Does anyone have experience with using macs for recording? Audibly I can hear no differance so I'm wondering whether a mac is really worth the price for what I want it to do, and yup, Im talking recording my own music. I very much liked garageband too but that would not sell me a mac on its own.

2008-12-06 22:03:00 | I don't think you would actually hear any difference in sound due to using a Mac or PC (your audio gear would have much more of an impact I would imagine). The main differences would come down to software available (features, usability etc) and performance. | maccrazy (6741) | |
2008-12-06 22:11:00 | what are your music buddies using? | plod (107) | |
2008-12-06 22:19:00 | what are your music buddies using? They are all mixed as well. Each tends to have positives and negatives. I know the pros use Macs, but Id like to know why, although I did email a few of them the only reply I got was 'out of sponsorship'. Im in no way bagging macs, I just want to be sure of what I want before I splash out. If that made sense :drool lol

2008-12-06 22:48:00 | I did email a few of them the only reply I got was 'out of sponsorship'. And there is your answer. Half of them are probably using Mac's because they couldn't bring themselves to ask the very same question, Possibly because they were scared it would show them to be nubs in front of the "Pro" mac users. Macs are just superiour, Any "pro" knows that. Don't question it, You may find out the facts don't match the hype.

2008-12-06 23:27:00 | I don't think you will find a different answer here. Have you tried going to a forum that deals with the software you want to use? | plod (107) | |
2008-12-06 23:56:00 | Ive had a peak, but like every forum it normally ends up being another mac vs pc thread. Which is to be expected i guess, to be honest, so far what ive seen, Metla has hit it on the head, well that's what it seems like. The software itself is not an issue as both pc and mac are virtually the same in that respect. No one can seem to give me an answer. Which is cool, just i wont have to spend so much. Thanks Memphis for the comprehensive break down! I want a pc or mac specifically for my personal music, and yup Ive been looking at some nice sound cards! the idea to me is to have a workstation for my music, I will have guitars and mics/desk running into it so once it's set up i dont want to mess around with it. And Im also really starting to like logitech speakers for clarity! Thanks for your guys input though, I do appreciate it.

2008-12-07 00:14:00 | I will try and have a word with a mate of my brothers that swapped over about 12 months ago. He runs a little home recording studio. I do know that he went for a imac instead of a mac pro.
