2009-12-07 21:25:00 | I have a friend whos laptop cant send emails anymore. He is using Windows Mail with his farmside account. It can recieve emails fine but won't connect to the smtp server. I have tried calling them but they told me "Because you are on a Telecom connection you can't send emails with your farmside email". I have tried putting his account into outlook on MY laptop and it STILL won't send. The settings for farmside are below Email Address username@farmside.co.nz This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Incoming Mail (POP3) pop3.farmside.co.nz Outgoing Mail (SMTP) smtp.farmside.co.nz SMTP Authentication Yes Incoming Server (POP3) Port 110 Outgoing Server (SMTP) Port 25 Web Mail http://webmail.farmside.co.nz Windows Mail has the below error. The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'TEST', Account: 'Farmside', Server: ' smtp.farmside.co.nz', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure (SSL): No, Socket Error 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E and the MS Outlook error Task 'XXX@farmside.co.nz - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to recieve this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' Anyone got any ideads?

2009-12-07 21:28:00 | So he's with telecom - just chuck in smtp.xtra.co.nz with no SSL, no auth, no nothing and it ought to work fine. Sending with the farmside SMTP server isn't gonna work if he's with anyone else. | wratterus (105) | |
2009-12-07 21:32:00 | Huh, It really WAS that easy lol. I probly didn't make myself clear. He is with farmside and couldn't send emails from his house. So he dropped it in at my house (we are with Telecom) and asked if I could ring farmside and get it sorted as he didn't have time. So if I just leave it as smtp.xtra.co.nz will it work when he gets home?

2009-12-07 21:36:00 | Cool, thanks for the quick replies BTW. So what was the problem in the first place? Why wont they send through farmsides server? | xyz823 (13649) | |
2009-12-07 21:39:00 | No problem. Edit - wait sorry - I didn't read the post right. If he is with farmside xtra's smtp server won't work at his house. These settings should work - that looks like what you had in the first place anyway. Email Address username@farmside.co.nz Incoming Mail (POP3) pop3.farmside.co.nz Outgoing Mail (SMTP) smtp.farmside.co.nz SMTP Authentication Yes Incoming Server (POP3) Port 110 Outgoing Server (SMTP) Port 25 I'd re-input those, double check they are all right, and if it still doesn't work from his place you might need to give FS a call when you are onsite.

2009-12-07 21:49:00 | I have done a few setups for farmside, and I never remember ticking the 'outgoing server requires authentication' box, although I could be wrong. The annoying thing here is you have it working fine with a different ISP, but to actually test it with FS settings you need to be onsite. :( | wratterus (105) | |
2009-12-07 21:52:00 | I once went to a LAN party and couldn't use my email (friend had Ihug, I have Telecom) I then found out that not long before that, Telecom had banned all usage of their servers through other ISP connections IF you didn't have SSL turned on. Once I did that, I could use my email on anyone's internet connection. I expect you just have to change something here too.

2009-12-07 21:54:00 | I'll give it back to him and get him to test it out when he gets home. If it doesn't work I'll get him to try re-insert the details. And then HE can deal with farmside lol. | xyz823 (13649) | |
