726327 2008-12-08 08:29:00 A mac pro would seem a over kill, a imac would should be fine and with money saved more ram and second monitor. It also is a lot more portable if that is a requirement. plod (107)
726328 2008-12-08 09:03:00 My bad, I must have made an assumption that you weren't worried about the software because your intended application ran on both platforms. But it seems your just not worried about teh software because your not worried about the software.

Good ****.

Lmfao, I looked at the imac store, More fool you if you pay those prices.

store.apple.com

Even the amount wanted for the base model would get you a twin screened dwarf killing PC.

726329 2008-12-08 09:16:00 Right then - "want the works in one big go".
It is simple - either a lot of prunes, or an Apple. ;)

726330 2008-12-08 09:17:00 Worth it though.
A thing of beauty.

Just like you have to pay more for a beautiful woman.
If you are not fussy pay less and get an ugly one.

What the hell?

You referring to whores?

That would have to be the single worst analogy I have ever read, ever.

Ive purposely stayed off the software side of things, both mac and pc's have very excellent software for music, I have used both and would happily use either, I just want the best system I can for music and music only. Live recording and mixing.
Some good questions though, Ive emailed a couple more music companies etc,Ill see what they say.

726334 2008-12-09 01:16:00 Just got an email back from some of the engineers at roadrunner records, a few of them are using quad core pc's, they are going to send a list of specs that I could use for a home rig. Will post once i get them. Its quite interesting how people approach this subject in different ways.
They did mention they do use macs as well as macs were already in the studio and most were familiar with them, but they also mentioned the 'new breed' of engineers are using pc's just as well, alot of the differances is more with software compatibility, some specifically made for large studios, but seems the general opinion is there is little differance in the actual sound quality itself, unless you are planning to set up a professional recording studio.
So now it's starting to look more like a cost issue if anything, in which case I would go to a pc.
Ill see what I end up with after i get a couple of quotes. Id still like to hear some more about macs sound progs though.

726335 2008-12-09 01:30:00 That analogy is so messed up it's not funny.

More from the Mac God. :)

"You can get Logic Studio which is the whole works for music production for $799 NZ if you want to go Mac Not sure about the cost on the PC software/hardware side of things.
Just depends on what you want to get if you want to go Mac hardware wise..?
Your options are totallymac.com (NZ reseller) who also do 2nd hand stuff as well as brand new Magnum Mac or what ever the resellers are in the Tron.

Whats your budget?"

He has spoken.
