837691 2009-12-08 09:26:00 No right click menu. jackinthebox11 (15498)
837692 2009-12-08 09:27:00 Ctrl+Alt+Delete/Task Manager/Choose Applications tab/New Task/Browse to My Computer/ 'C'/Windows/explorer.exe/Run

That should get explorer running.

837694 2009-12-08 09:32:00 The browse window won't come up. When I click Browse taskmanager closes. But if you could give me the command for that I could have a go at entering it. jackinthebox11 (15498)
837695 2009-12-08 09:34:00 Found the following procedure on several other forums, same problem:

The exact procedure (note, you can do this even though there is no desktop)

1. CTRL-Alt-Del to bring up Task Manager.
2. Click File | New Task(run).
3. Type regedit in the Run box and click OK.
4. Browse to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution.options

5. Under this key there will be subkeys named explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe. Delete the explorer and iexplorer keys entirely. They should not be listed under the Image File Execution.Options key.
6. Close the Registry Editor.
7. Restart the computer.

837696 2009-12-08 09:41:00 After I typed in rededit and click run the taskmanager window disappeared and that was that. But that Microsoft article looks promising i'll just reboot the computer into safemode with command prompt. jackinthebox11 (15498)
837697 2009-12-08 09:41:00 You need windows to get into regedit not DOS. Boot into safe mode / networking, use IE, paste this in it, <- link to trojan remover, then run it (dont save it) (www.simplysupersoft.com). Then update it then scan. Hopefully the window for it comes up Speedy Gonzales (78)
837698 2009-12-08 09:50:00 The microsoft article didn't work (cannont find the specified file). Thanks for looking though. Would an option be to install windows in a different folder so that I can recover my files? jackinthebox11 (15498)

I haven't found a way to open regedit yet. When I boot into networking safemode it's just a black screen with safemode writen all round it. No windows, unfortunately.
