It doesn't harm anything, it just takes it out of startup.

838250 2009-12-10 02:33:00 That's what I was wondering - I don't necessarily want to DELETE or UNINSTALL this stuff, just make it to where it doesn't run itself every time I boot up...

Any way to do this?

StartupCPL www.mlin.net

get the control panel version not the stand alone.

Whilst you are there get:

StartupMonitor www.mlin.net

Read the how to use on the pages, both very worthwhile I have had them on every computer I've owned for the last 8 years, wouldn't run any computer I have any control over without them both.

My favourite is Autoruns by Sysinternals; probably the single-most useful app I have.

Auto runs; easy & fast.

And why do you people use msconfig.. tis only for troubleshooting.. not very good to temporary disable start up entries from there.. besides, it only shows 70%! Ah well.. people will learn eventually I guess.

838254 2009-12-10 07:33:00 No, Autoruns is too powerful for the average user, StartupCPL is perfect for dealing with too many programs in startup but that you still may want to re-enable later and easily.

Also autoruns does not warn when new programs are added to startup at install.
