838180 2009-12-12 23:34:00 yes, you can boot up off your Windows 7 install DVD / USB key or even PXE boot off the network and restore from the image you took previously Just done that yesterday - thought I'd have a play - A W7 image was created from one PC and saved to external drive - then on a completely different PC, completely different hardware was imaged back - worked perfectly - W7 simply added in the new drivers for different hardware and away it went.

The original image had NO other drivers or software in it apart from the ones W7 loaded.

It was installed without a product key, as you can do, so if it were to be used in builds you would simply enter a legit COA and change the user name.

As nathen said,simply booted from the W7 recovery CD you can make - aim it at the image and restored it -- only so called "down Side" was the external USB drive had to be formated as NTFS - originally it was FAT32 and W7 said it cant create an image on that format.
