837195 2009-12-07 05:46:00 Why would you want to overclock it? PC running slow? Want more gaming grunt?

I wouldn't bother OCing until it can't handle games at max settings etc.. i'm sure it runs fine not overclocked
I'm guessing Huey is an overclocker like I am just because we can (and want to).

837196 2009-12-07 06:32:00 If it's stable when it's at stock speeds but randomly BSODs when you overclock it, then the answer is simple: you have just overclocked something too much. Agent_24 (57)
837197 2009-12-07 07:20:00 I know im far from pushing it to its limits

And as qazwsxokmijn said, I dont need to overclock (its a beast at stock) but I WANT to. Just to see what its capable of

Most ive had it at was 4.5ghz but I wouldnt get that stable without giving it silly volts and as its not exactly cheap gear I'm not quite ready to kill it

Well perhaps you are pushing it too far with your particular CPU .
As someone said in an earlier post every CPU is different and just because one person can get good OC results with the same model CPU as you it doesn't mean that you will get the same .

837199 2009-12-07 07:43:00 Im aware of that but i dont think ive seen a 860 yet that wont do 4ghz, itd suck pretty bad for mine to be the first hueybot3000 (3646)
837200 2009-12-07 07:54:00 Yeah I know it would suck. But there are always other factors that may be hindering your OC....maybe chipset voltage/temperature? I still don't have my i7 gear set up, but from what I've read it's slightly more complex to OC on an X58, maybe it's the same for P55?

And besides, you might have a slightly below average CPU.....there are 920s that can't reach 4GHz either.

837201 2009-12-07 07:56:00 Yes, I personally wouldn't touch over clocking. If your PC can't handle the jandle, get one that can take the shoe. It voids warranties and not to mention the damage it causes.

If a game runs smoothly the way it is, what does overclocking do? If a program runs smoothly, what does overclocking do? I still cannot grasp the concept why people would OC... and most who do, are people who are knowledgeable with PCs. Then I would think for a person that has knowledge about PCs that they wouldn't have a piece of dung that couldn't do what they wanted it to do in the first place.

837202 2009-12-07 07:57:00 Its still the same idea behind it all, just 4x as many contributing factors. Il get the hang of it eventually. Temps shouldnt be a problem, plenty of airflow and watercooled hueybot3000 (3646)

Purely cos I can, if a computer is capable of better than stock then why not have that?

837204 2009-12-07 08:01:00 Well, you're getting bluescreens. You say it's worth it eh?

I've heard enough stories myself to avoid as such.
